Research Interests

Major domains of research interests and activities have focused on multidisciplinary domains of Sociology, Anthropology and African Studies. His projects carried out are in the areas of Sociology and (Anthropology) Economic, Labor, Organizations and Development, as well as Political Sociology, power and democratic participation. Currently, he works on the impacts of new digital technologies on the emergence of new solutions, problems, tensions, responses and research methods in economics spaces (debt, productivity …), political (forms of democracy), social (capacity building, protections) (individualization, social networks …), sustainability of the organizations of the Social and Solidarity Economy in Portugal.

Bio

PhD degree in Anthropology from UTL (1989). He holds a Master degree in Sociology from the University of Paris V (1975), a degree in Anthropology from the University Paris VII (1974), and in Sociology from the University of Paris V (1974). He was president of the Center for African Studies – ISCTE and consultant to UNDP and the ILO. He has coordinated several research projects in the areas of politics and social economy and development. At ULHT, he was the Assistant-Dean, Director of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education and Administration, and President of CPES. He has taught curricular units in the three cycles of Higher Education studies on Epistemology and Research Methodology in Social Sciences; Globalization and New Social Problems, Management of Social and Welfare Units; Sociological Theories; Anthropology of Education; Project Methodologies; Social Projects; Inequalities, Inclusion and Social Exclusion.

  • O IMPACTO DA ECONOMIA INFORMAL NA REDUÇÃO DA EXCLUSÃO E DA POBREZA NOS PALOP E SUAS INTERACÇÕES COM A PROTECÇÃO SOCIAL. Como consultor da OIT, coordenou um projecto sobre com a parceria de centros de investigação INEP da Guiné Bissau, Cruzeiro do Sul de Moçambique, AIP de Angola (2004-2007).
  • EMPREENDEDORISMO, EMPRESARIADO E DESENVOLVIMENTO EM ANGOLA E MOÇAMBIQUE, Projecto financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Coordenador da equipa do projecto no quadro do CEA-ISCTE (2003-2007).
  • PROJECTO ANTROPOLOGIA INDUSTRIAL “O PODER E O RISCO NA RACIONALIDADE DA GESTÃO E DA PRODUÇÃO SIMBÓLICA DO TRABALHO NA REFINARIA DE SINES /PETROGAL”. Projecto financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Investigador responsável (1993-1997).
  • PROJECTO DE MICROFILMAGEM DE FONTES HISTÓRICAS PRIMÁRIAS SOBRE MOÇAMBIQUE, existentes nos Arquivos Portugueses e realizado pelo Arquivo Histórico de Moçambique no âmbito da cooperação com o Governo Português e financiado pela Agência Sueca para a Cooperação Científica (SAREC). Coordenador do Projecto. Realizou investigação nos Arquivos Histórico Ultramarino e Arquivo do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, Biblioteca da Ajuda e Biblioteca Nacional, Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa e Torre do Tombo (1982 a 1988).
  • ESTUDO SOBRE O HABITAT MOÇAMBICANO, no quadro da Direcção Nacional de Habitação de Moçambique como consultor da ONU. Coordenou o trabalho de campo no distrito de Vilanculos, Província de Inhambane, e com Adolfo Yañez-Casal, o respectivo relatório /análise intitulado “Contribuição para o Estudo do Habitat Moçambicano”, publicado pela Direcção Nacional da Habitação / Instituto Nacional de Planeamento Físico em 1983 (Dezembro de 1980 a Janeiro de 1982).

Bio

PhD degree in Economics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne – Collège du Management de la Technologie (2008), Masters in Economics at the Université de Lausanne – Écoledes Hautes Etudes Commerciales (2003) and a degree in Economics from the Technical University of Lisbon – ISEG (1999). Since 2009 she has held positions in the Regulation Authority as a senior economist. She has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management at ULHT since 2011. She began her activity as an auditor at KPMG between 1999 and 2000. She later worked as an economist at Exxon Mobil -Esso Portuguesa between 2000 and 2002 and as an associate researcher in the Chair Management of Network Industries – École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne from 2004 to 2008.
